What should happen after your student misses an SAT Math problem?

Practice becomes useful when the student receives actionable feedback, corrects the reasoning, and later demonstrates the skill independently.

Five-part sequence

Follow one missed problem across multiple sessions

The timing below is a practical framework. It is not a scientifically proven optimal interval or a guaranteed SAT-score improvement.

1. First attempt

Solve independently and mark the first uncertain step. Do not interrupt the attempt or give the answer.

2. Same session

Compare the work, obtain actionable feedback, and identify the first incorrect or inefficient decision in the reasoning, setup, execution, timing, or Desmos choice.

3. Redo from a blank page

Solve the problem again and explain the correction in the student’s own words. Ask what changed and why the revised approach works.

4. Next study session

Solve a parallel problem without assistance using a similar skill with different numbers or presentation.

5. Later mixed practice

Return to the skill in a mixed set and check whether the learning transferred when the problem type was not announced.

Tutor or teacher

Diagnose the mathematics when technical feedback is needed.

Student

Explain the correction and solve independently.
